Declutter Your Life This New Year

It’s a new year and even more importantly, a new decade!

You might be feeling a lot of pressure to set lofty goals for yourself like getting back to the gym, eating right or getting that big promotion at work. Those are all wonderful things! However, what if you set a different type of goal for yourself this year?

With anxiety and depression levels at an all-time high in our society, decluttering your life can have positive effects on your overall mental health and happiness. 

Here are a few simple ways that you can declutter every aspect of your life thanks to our resident minimalist, Jennifer Crane:

Home

Fewer things mean less time cleaning and organizing which means more energy to spend time doing things you love.

Doing things you love can lead to less depression and managing fewer items in your life will relieve some anxiety.

Intentions

Create New Year’s intentions for yourself that are achievable, these can be both large and small.

An example of a large intention might be to exercise three times a week. This is large but achievable. A small intention might be: make my bed once a week.

This is very doable and will make you feel good when you can achieve it week after week.

Relationships 

We all have people in our lives that we know deep down we should be decluttering, but we don’t because of fear, rejection from others and possibly dredging up some very uncomfortable feelings.

By not eliminating toxic people from your life, you’re continuing to betray yourself and put yourself second.

It’s time to put yourself first and get rid of the people that don’t deserve to be in your life.

Finances 

We all have a lot of bills, subscription services and debt that we payout every month. Some of these expenses are necessary, however, some are not.

For example, if you’re subscribed to four different streaming services, maybe cut that down to one or two that you love. Also, it’s a good time to review all your expenses and make sure you are aware of what’s coming out of the bank each month.

There might be a few you weren’t aware of that could save you some cash by cutting out!

By practicing simplicity in these four areas of your life this new year, you’re setting yourself up for a year full of intentional living and gaining back valuable time and money you may have lost over the past year.
