Introducing The Hideaway: Our Little Cayman Beach House

I’m so excited to finally introduce you to The Hideaway, our Little Cayman beach house, and our newest project - now available for guest stays!

Our Story

The Hideaway was a longtime dream of ours ~ to own a beach house where you can totally switch off, slow down and enjoy the magic of island living surrounded by nature.

I spent my childhood in Grand Cayman waking up to the sounds of the sea, spending endless hours on the beach and in the water, collecting seashells and drinking fresh coconut water. Stefan's was spent as a boy scout camping around a fire, fishing, and exploring the wilderness.

As busy adults, we felt drawn back to nature and the joy of this simple living and coincidentally spent more and more time in Little Cayman. In late 2019 on our Digital Detox in Little Cayman I talked Stefan into arranging a viewing of this colourful wooden house I’d seen for sale for a while. It turns out the property had been on the market for 4 years with a really high price tag. We toured the house and although it wasn’t in great condition, I just had that feeling that it felt right and that it really had a lot of potential. Fast forward 6 months and a global pandemic later, the stars aligned and we were able to make it ours at the right price!

We thought we'd keep this place just our little secret but after lots of upgrades, it wasn't long before we wanted others to feel the magic of this space. Over the past year, we've loved sharing The Hideaway with guests. It's the perfect place to start a new book, dream up a new project, find some romance or just do nothing.

We hope you enjoy the place as much as we do.

Sometimes the most beautiful places on Earth are hidden away.

The Hideaway

This one-bedroom, one-bathroom beach house is the epitome of relaxed, island living. With its second floor, wrap-around balcony, The Hideaway has one of the most incredible views on the island - beach, sea, trees blowing in the breeze, and even Cayman Brac in the distance.

With over an acre of private land and your own private beach, The Hideaway allows you to really disconnect from the world.

We’ve also equipped the house with everything you need to relax in comfort whilst also honouring the simplicity of island living. You can expect a fully equipped kitchen, living room, bedroom and bathroom - with the only exception being drinking water and toiletries. Below you’ll find all the helpful info you need to book flights, transport, what to bring and what to do whilst you’re here - even if doing nothing is top of your list!

Flights

When planning a long weekend away, it can be a little tricky to find the perfect flights that don’t eat into precious vacation days but give you enough time to really enjoy a new place.

Little Cayman flights couldn’t be easier. With a grand flying time of 35 minutes, you’ll love the journey in your own private jet {aka the Cayman Airways Twin Otter} staring out the window as you tour over East End and the most beautiful waters leading up to Little Cayman.

Even though you’re traveling within the Cayman Islands, you do still need your passport, and regular airport and COVID rules apply (including masks and check-in one hour before).

What To Pack

Packing for Little Cayman is a unique experience…mainly because it almost always involves a cooler! Although there are some cute restaurants and a well-stocked shop and Jacques Scott liquor store, it is a good idea to bring what you need and it’s so great that you’re able to.

Baggage allowance when flying on the Twin Otter is 55 lbs per person {eg the combined weight of up to 2 pieces} and only one 15 lb carry-on, any excess will be charged US$0.50 per pound. The same carry-on rules apply when it comes to liquids as you do have to go through security.

You can find the Cayman Airways baggage policy here.

When it comes to food, the main thing to remember is that you need to bring any food items in a sealed cooler {don’t forget duct tape or bungee cords to seal it shut}.

Here’s what I’d suggest packing:

  • Sunglasses, a sunhat, sunblock and aftersun,

  • Mask, snorkel, and fins {if you have},

  • A good book,

  • A camera or go pro,

  • Floaty dresses, sarong or sundress,

  • Any toiletries and meds you might need,

  • Bug spray {more for sandflies than mosquitoes}

  • Drinking water (or purchase this at the shop)

What’s included with the house?

  • Air conditioning and two fans

  • Bath (4) and beach towels (4)

  • Hairdryer

  • Coffee Machine (Nespresso), French press & Kettle

  • WiFi

  • Sonos Speaker

  • Yoga mats (2)

  • Paddleboards (2)

  • Charcoal mini BBQ (coal not included)

  • Toilet Roll (3)

  • Kitchen Roll (2)

Car & Scooter Hire

Little Cayman is approximately 11 square miles of untouched beaches, secluded tracks to nowhere, and wetlands full of nature. It’s by far the closest thing we have to untouched Caribbean living and it gives me an insight into what life must have been like for my parents moving to Grand Cayman in 1976 with only one hotel on Seven Mile Beach!

Although Little Cayman is small, there is a lot to see and this is best done by scooter (Scooten Scooters ) or car (Little Cayman Car Rentals) both of which must be booked in advance. In busy times, these can sell out!

Where To Explore

There are so many hidden gems just waiting to be explored so grab your sunnies, slap on some sunscreen, and hop on your scooter - you won’t be disappointed:

Lounge at Point of Sand beach - the most picturesque beach in all of the Cayman Islands I’d say! Perfect for a picnic or a swim. Epic views of Cayman Brac.

Go Diving with Little Cayman Divers - We loved our two-tank dive on the world-renown Bloody Bay Wall with this great group of experienced divers. Highly recommend them!

Kayak out to Owen’s Island - Rent a kayak from Southern Cross Club and explore this magical uninhabited island next to an island.

Visit the Little Cayman Museum - We didn’t get our act together but I wish we had popped into the museum to learn more about Little Cayman’s history. Closed on Sundays.

Cycle to the Lighthouse - we cycled the quick 15 mins cycle from Paradise Villas, past the airport runway, to the West End Lighthouse with a bottle of champagne to watch an epic sunset. Amazing views - don’t forget bug spray for the sandflies though!

Snooze in a hammock - Each of the beach resorts are laden with hammocks and it’s safe to say it’s considered a Little Cayman essential

Snorkel at CCMI - If diving isn’t your thing, why not visit the Central Caribbean Marine Institute and head out for a snorkel where the amazing drop-off is only feet from the shoreline.
